What depth of brick to I need?
Our bricks are available in 3 depths – 50mm, 60mm and 80mm
- 50mm – Suitable for footpaths, patios & light vehicular traffic (domestic driveway – average use)
- 60mm – Suitable for any driveway or domestic application (domestic driveway – busy use)
- 80mm – Suitable for commercial applications where there is very high volume of traffic
Will the colour fade?
Concrete paving bricks are dyed with colour pigments for the effect of a natural product.
As with any coloured product susceptible to our weather conditions, we cannot guarantee the colour will hold through the life of the brick.
However, this will not affect the overall performance of the brick. By sealing the paving after it is installed, it will enhance the colour and prevent fading
Will weeds grow up through the paving?
Weeds do not grow from the bedding up through the paving, but rather from the wind blowing seeds and lodging between the joints.
Regular sweeping prevents growth between the joints
How long will my paving last?
Barleystone Paving products come with a 25-year guarantee. Your paving should last a minimum of this time.
Should I seal my paving?
Sealing newly installed paving is always recommended but is not always necessary.
To prevent staining from spillages or car tyres marks, the area should be sealed. It is easier to remove stains from a sealed driveway. It will also combat weed growth and enhance colour.
How do I clean my paving?
The recommended way to clean paving is by using a low-pressure garden hose and a stiff yard brush to remove debris and stains.
If persistent staining remains power hosing is an alternative. However, do not use a power hose frequently as it can remove jointing sand, leading to brick movement. Always replace lost jointing sand to ensure optimum performance.
What are the small white deposits on my paving?
This is called ‘Efflorescence’ or ‘Lime Bloom’. This rarely occurs and this is simply the result of the natural reaction of water and cement and will disappear
